We hear this tall tale from other marketing consultants all the time. If a client asks them why certain key points aren't covered in their concepts, their answer may sound something like, "We keep it short because no one will read more than a few lines before they give up on your message. It also interferes with the graphic layout. Besides, it's better to explain that when they call."

Good copy systematizes your message and builds your brand.
It's not about long or short, it's about engaging the reader.  Think about it logically - why would your target audience stop reading your message? Do you think it may have something to do with the quality and relevancy of the copy? Of course. If the copy is poorly written or irrelevant to the reader, then  they will read very little. So maybe what most "short-copy-only" advocates really mean is that they don't know how to engage your reader with words - the most powerful persuasion tool you have.
